Rescued pupils and teachers abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State are expected to reunite with their families today (Monday) following their anticipated formal handover by the military to the Oyo State Government. The victims regained their freedom on Friday after spending 56 days in captivity and have since been receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support at the 2 Division Nigerian Army Medical Services in Ibadan.
Governor Seyi Makinde said the victims were placed under 48 hours of medical observation before their transfer to the state government. He added that arrangements had been made to reunite them with their families, noting that some of the rescued children had repeatedly asked to see their parents.
Meanwhile, Gunmen have reportedly abducted the headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Igbojaye, Budo Aare, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, Kolawale Mathew Owoade, and demanded a ₦30 million ransom for his release.
The 60-year-old educator was kidnapped on Saturday evening while returning from his farm. According to his son, Abiola Owoade, the abductors later contacted the family using the victim's mobile phone and demanded the ransom.
