June 08, 2026

The South-West chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on security, citing rising cases of kidnappings, banditry, and violent crimes across the region and other parts of the country.

The CAN South-West Chairman, Barnabas Akin-Akinsanya, expressed concern over what he described as increasing vulnerability of the region to criminal infiltration, warning that the security situation was becoming more alarming.

In response, President Bola Tinubu, through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, reaffirmed that his administration would intensify efforts to combat terrorism and banditry, stressing that Nigeria would not succumb to criminal intimidation.
