CBN ORDERS NIGERIANS TO ACCEPT STANDARD N100 NOTE

July 09, 2026

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed Nigerians, businesses and commercial banks to stop rejecting the standard N100 banknote, stating that it remains legal tender and must be accepted for all transactions nationwide.

The apex bank said the directive followed reports that some traders and members of the public were refusing to accept the note due to rumours that the older design had been phased out. The CBN clarified that the commemorative N100 note introduced to mark Nigeria’s centenary did not replace the standard version.

The bank reiterated that both the standard and commemorative N100 notes remain valid and in circulation, urging the public to disregard misinformation about the status of the currency.
