EKITI JOURNALISTS TRAINED ON FACT-CHECKING, EDITORIAL INTEGRITY AHEAD OF ELECTIONS

Media practitioners in Ekiti State have been trained on editorial integrity, fact-checking, misinformation management, inclusion, and civic education ahead of future elections during a programme organised by the Centre for Media and Society, CEMESO, in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council.
The training, held at Midas FM, Ado-Ekiti under the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria, EU-SDGN II programme, focused on strengthening ethical journalism and improving media responsibility in the digital age. Discussions centred on editorial gatekeeping, fact-checking, misinformation response mechanisms, civic and voter education, as well as the inclusion of women, youths, and persons with disabilities in governance and newsroom operations.
Speaking during the session themed “Editorial Integrity Under Pressure,” Executive Director of CEMESO, Dr. Akin Akingbulu, alongside facilitator Williams T., urged journalists to remain professional despite growing pressure in the media space. They warned against the premature dissemination of information and stressed the need for proper verification before publication.
