EXPERT CALLS FOR LAW TO TACKLE RECURRING FLOODS IN EKITI

October 07, 2026

A water resources management expert, Engineer Michael Ale, has called for legislation to address recurring flooding in Ekiti State.

Ale, Coordinator of the Global Development Initiative, said a dedicated law would strengthen flood prevention and management across the state.

He urged the government to enforce environmental and urban planning regulations, particularly against activities that block drainage channels and waterways.

Ale also called for stronger coordination among government agencies and communities to improve flood preparedness and reduce the impact of heavy rainfall.
