PETER OBI VOWS TO RESTORE PETROL SUBSIDY IF ELECTED IN 2027
October 07, 2026
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, says he will restore petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Obi made the statement during an interview on Tuesday, saying the major problem with subsidy is the corruption associated with its implementation.
He said his administration would first eliminate corruption surrounding the scheme and then retain the subsidy to reduce the burden on Nigerians.
Obi maintained that his position has always been that corruption, rather than subsidy itself, is the problem.
His position comes after he previously supported the removal of petrol subsidy, while arguing that the savings should be properly invested in healthcare and other critical sectors.
