The Federal Government has emphasized the need for enhanced collaboration among federal agencies, border states, traditional rulers, and neighbouring countries to strengthen border security and tackle cross-border threats.

The call was made at a one-day national workshop on “Border Security, Resilience and Cross-Border Cooperation” organised by the National Boundary Commission in Abuja.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole (retd.) stressed that effective border management is essential for national security and economic growth. He noted that while Nigeria’s borders support trade and cultural exchange, they are also exposed to challenges such as transnational crime, smuggling, and irregular migration.
