FG TO EVACUATE 270 NIGERIANS FROM SOUTH AFRICA

July 07, 2026

The Federal Government has announced plans to evacuate 270 Nigerians from South Africa as part of its continued efforts to repatriate citizens affected by renewed xenophobic attacks and worsening security conditions. The evacuation will be carried out aboard the fourth special Air Peace flight, scheduled to depart Lagos for Johannesburg on Tuesday before returning with the registered evacuees.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the aircraft is expected to leave Lagos at 3:30 p.m., depart Johannesburg at 12:00 midnight, and arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, by about 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, subject to operational conditions. The ministry's spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the flight is part of the government's ongoing repatriation programme for Nigerians willing to return home.

The Federal Government described the operation as the fourth evacuation exercise organised for Nigerians in South Africa and urged those yet to register to complete their documentation. Authorities also issued a final call to citizens still in the country to take advantage of the evacuation programme as xenophobic attacks and security concerns persist.
