June 29, 2026
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has identified 385 flashpoints and 200 difficult-to-access areas ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election as part of measures to ensure a peaceful, secure, and credible poll.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, made the disclosure during a security stakeholders' meeting in Osogbo convened by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West, Adegoke Fayoade. The meeting brought together heads of security agencies, religious leaders, electoral officials, media representatives, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
Babalola said the commission had completed a risk assessment across the state's 30 local government areas and shared the findings with security agencies to guide strategic deployment and strengthen security arrangements for the governorship election.
