NIGERIA’S POWER SECTOR REFORMS CAN SERVE AS MODEL FOR DEVELOPING ECONOMIES — TEGbe

September 02, 2026

Nigeria’s ongoing power sector reforms could provide a model for other developing economies seeking to strengthen energy security amid rising geopolitical tensions and global fragmentation, Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has said.

Tegbe made the remarks in a keynote address at the opening plenary of the 50th edition of the Middle East Energy 2026 Leadership Summit in Dubai.

Speaking on the theme, “Energy Security and the Effect of Geopolitics,” the minister told ministers, industry leaders and international delegates that energy security could no longer be measured solely by the availability of oil and gas reserves.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister, Adeola Labzy, Tegbe highlighted the need for countries to adopt broader strategies that strengthen energy resilience and reduce vulnerability to geopolitical disruptions.

He said Nigeria’s power sector reforms demonstrate the importance of building a more resilient, diversified and sustainable energy system capable of supporting economic growth.

The minister’s remarks come amid growing global concerns over energy security, supply disruptions and the impact of geopolitical tensions on energy markets.
