TINUBU SECURES $11.4BN WORLD BANK LOAN APPROVALS IN THREE YEARS
July 07, 2026
President Bola Tinubu's administration has secured 11.4 billion dollars in loan approvals from the World Bank within three years, bringing it close to surpassing the total amount approved during former President Muhammadu Buhari's eight-year administration.
Available data shows that Nigeria received 11.4 billion dollars in World Bank loan approvals between June 2023 and June 2026, compared to 14.59 billion dollars approved during Buhari's tenure from 2015 to 2023. Tinubu's administration now needs about 3.19 billion dollars more in approvals to exceed that record.
However, only 2.32 billion dollars of the approved funds have been disbursed so far, while 8.41 billion dollars remains available. In comparison, Buhari's administration recorded a much higher disbursement rate, with 11.94 billion dollars released from the 14.59 billion dollars approved.
