The Federal Government says deeper cooperation between Nigeria and China in the power sector will help improve electricity supply, expand renewable energy and promote local manufacturing of power equipment.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Tegbe said Chinese investments would have greater impact if they also focused on developing Nigerian engineers and technicians, strengthening local enterprises and building capacity to operate and maintain power infrastructure.

He noted that Nigeria and China had developed their relationship from diplomatic ties into a broad partnership covering infrastructure, healthcare, trade, investment and technical exchanges.

The minister recalled that both countries established diplomatic relations in 1971, while the relationship was elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2024.
