FG URGES BROADCASTERS TO ENSURE ACCURACY AHEAD OF 2027 ELECTIONS

September 30, 2026

The Federal Government has urged broadcasters across Nigeria to uphold accuracy, fairness and responsible reporting ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the charge at the 3rd Annual National Conference of the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters in Bauchi. He warned broadcasters against disseminating unverified information, particularly digitally manipulated audio, video and images made possible by artificial intelligence.

The Minister also called on broadcasters to clearly distinguish between facts, allegations and opinions in their reports, while continuing to scrutinise public institutions and political actors. He said responsible reporting would be important in protecting public trust in the electoral process.
