SENATE TO PROBE AIR FORCE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE FUNDS AFTER FATAL CRASH

October 14, 2026

The Nigerian Senate has resolved to investigate funds allocated for the maintenance of Nigerian Air Force aircraft following the fatal military aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on October 5.

The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Osita Ngwu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force.

The lawmakers directed the Senate committees on Air Force and Aviation to examine the condition and airworthiness of military and presidential aircraft and review maintenance funding. Senator Adams Oshiomhole also called for the Air Force to submit its aircraft maintenance budget for scrutiny.

The Senate called for a thorough investigation into the crash and urged relevant authorities to make their findings public.

It also stressed the need for adequate maintenance funding and the replacement of ageing aircraft to improve aviation safety and prevent similar incidents.
