Nigeria’s Super Eagles began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.

Madagascar took an early lead after capitalising on a quick transition, but George Ilenikhena equalised in first-half stoppage time to mark his senior debut with a goal.

Moses Usor then completed Nigeria’s comeback in the 65th minute, securing all three points and handing the Super Eagles a winning start to their qualifying campaign.

The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that the Super Eagles were drawn in Group L alongside Tanzania, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

However, with co-hosts Tanzania already guaranteed a place at the 2027 AFCON finals, Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau will battle for the remaining automatic qualification spot, making every point crucial in the group.
